Transitioning Your Skincare to Suit the Changing Weather

Well, we can officially wave goodbye to Summer as we embrace the chilly weather among us. If you’re anything like me, you’re noticing your skin changing too. Maybe it is a little more irritated than usual, maybe it is more red, maybe it is even starting to crack a little.
Our skin pH changes as the weather changes.
With the change in our skin’s pH means a change in the way our current products react to our skin. What may have worked in the gruelling heat of Summer is no longer applicable as the wind gusts across our faces. It also means that we may not be producing natural oils on our face any more which can leave our dry, irritated skin susceptible to environmental toxins, pollutants and bacteria.
Developing a new skincare routine.
The major component to our skincare routine that we need to add in the colder months is a heavier night cream. This will help our skin replenish moisture while we sleep and will ultimately help protect our skin to prevent irritation.
Morning Routine:
  1. Get clean: Switch from a harsher foaming cleanser to something a bit more nourishing like a milky or oil-based cleanser. Bonus: oil-based cleansers will provide a protectant layer over your skin.
  2. Tone it up: Gentle toners get rid of dirt and grime and prepare your face for moisturizer.
  3. Serum: Absolute game changer when it comes to moisture. Serums penetrate deeper layers of your skin, whereas moisturizers work on the first couple of layers. In combination, they nourish your skin and keep it feeling soft.
  4. Moisturize: Again, very important in terms of retaining moisture in your skin and combatting the harsher weather. Lets talk SPF for a moment. Just because the suns rays are no longer scalding our faces doesn’t mean we do away with our SPF. SPF should be worn 365 days a year to ensure protection again any sort of UV rays (the #1 cause of premature aging I might add!)

Night Routine:
  1. Get clean (again): Cleansing your face is very important at night as it is imperative we remove the dirt, grime, and make-up that has been on our face all day.
  2. Slough it off: Exfoliation is a key step as it helps clean deep in our pores. It also helps brush off dead skin cells which helps with skin turnover, resulting in a refreshed, glowy look.
  3. Toner: Applying toner at night helps rebalance the pH of your skin from all it has encountered during the day. Added bonus: it shrinks your pores so that less dirt can enter them.
  4. Moisturize: Choose a thicker, heavier cream to use at night. Our skin does the bulk of its repairing and regenerating while at rest and night creams focus on the moisture and recovery of our skin. They contain more potent ingredients that release into your skin over time as there is no risk of sunscreen or sun exposure interfering with the process.
So although not entirely different, adding some new key products into your fall/winter skincare routine is a must to prevent irritation, redness, and dry skin.

Why Pumpkin in Skincare is Beneficial

Why Pumpkin in Skincare is Beneficial + How it can help YOU

Fall is a season of change. The leaves change from green to beautiful shades of red, yellow, and orange. We say goodbye to the hot, sunny days of Summer as we pull out our cozy sweaters and embrace the windy, chilly weather that Fall brings. And most importantly, our skin changes with the season. It can become more dry, it can crack easier, and it can lose the summer glow you worked so hard to achieve if you don’t transition your skincare. Lucky for us, the Fall season brings us an abundance of pumpkins, a key ingredient to maintain glowing skin.

DID YOU KNOW:

Pumpkin contains amazing properties that benefit the skin in many ways. So how does pumpkin help treat my skin, you ask?

• It is packed with fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which increase cell turnover, to brighten and smooth the skin.

• It contains antioxidant Vitamin A and Vitamin C to help soften and soothe the skin and boost collagen production to prevent the signs of aging.

• Zinc in pumpkin seeds is brilliant for acne sufferers. Zinc will help control the hormone level and oil production, as well as assist with healing of the skin.

• Pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are necessary to maintain good barrier function of the skin. They also regulate sebum, great for oily skin.

• The molecular structure of pumpkin is small and therefore can penetrate deeper into the skin when used topically. This is amazing for treating a dull complexion, aging skin and pigmentation.

Due to the many benefits pumpkin has, it is easy to find in advanced, professional skin care today such as Éminence Organics Skin Care, which we use in our Fall Promo facial and back glow!
