At Pretty In Pink Spa we feel it is very important that young girls grow up realizing that being a girl is an amazing thing and should never feel anything less than AMAZING and PROUD. Our September event discusses the “Like A Girl” campaign aiming to empower girls as they write positive motivation messages, design a T-shirt with a “GIRL” power poem and of course developing positive friendships with our girl talk session, enjoy delicious snacks and of course Dance like No one is Watching!
Our events are designed for ages 6 & up
Pretty in Pink Spa for little girls is a happy, uplifting place to be – Canadian Living
The average spa caters to women over 20, perhaps with money, looking for a quiet moment away from noise (that includes the chattering of children!) and the clutter of the everyday. For Sonia Imerti, owner of Pretty in Pink Spa Studio, this model leaves out a critical but seemingly obvious client base: little girls.
Her “ah-ha” moment came when she was out of town for a family wedding and headed to a spa with the women in her family, including her young daughter. “When we checked in, it was a strict ‘No Kids’ policy,” she says. “We’d had no idea. My husband had already left with the ushers. I wanted to cancel my appointment but they’d already charged my credit card.” Imerti asked to speak with the manager and finally had her daughter admitted to the spa, for the full price of $120. “They did the seaweed mask on her legs. It was a long treatment. She couldn’t reach the bowls. Needless to say, she was devastated and hated the whole experience.”
Fast forward to 2013 and Imerti has filled this gap in the market (at least in Oakville, ON) with a thriving day spa that hosts birthday parties, mother-daughter treatments and monthly events (the next one’s on December 13), all in a pretty, girly space with beauty stations small enough for the under-five-foot set.
When Canadian Living‘s style intern, Helena, and I stopped by the spa one weekend, I expected to feel silly and out of place because of my age (much older than the average client aged 8 or 9). Instead, I felt right at home. Imerti says this reaction is common. When she first opened, “Moms would be dropping off their kids at the parties and say, ‘What about us?’” she remembers. “I’d giggle, but they’d say, ‘No, really. Can I have my bachelorette party here?’” The demand was so big that Imerti eventually hired an aesthetician named Lucy to give Éminence facials to women during the day while kids are at school. Teen boys have also been known to cross the threshold. “One boy whose acne was bad said, after coming to Lucy for a few sessions, ‘I can smile and it doesn’t hurt.’ That was huge.”
Imerti takes pride in being inclusive, especially when it comes to allergies. One of her daughters has celiac disease, so she is happy to cater to children’s food allergies at birthday parties (where the girls are offered cupcakes and lemonade in champagne glasses). The shop at the front of the space also carries a wide variety of organic and gluten-free beauty products from brands such as Éminence, 100% Pure and LACC nail polish. Whether or not a girl faces food or beauty restrictions, she can try almost anything at Pretty in Pink and be sure that it will be safe and smell and look good enough to eat.
It all sounds great, but for me the real proof that this spa concept works is the way it makes little girls feel. While Helena and I were getting our nails done (after a relaxing organic facial), a mother brought in her young daughter and friend for pedicures. The two girls donned bright pink robes, sipped lemonade and looked around with wonder, as though they couldn’t believe their eyes. Pretty in Pink is essentially a wonderland with its wall of inspirational quotes, accent colours and treasure trove of goodies in the shop, and the giddy joy that girls young and old can experience makes it a really special place.
High Diamond Makes High Impact
Message of Being True to Yourself Has Impact on Oakville Girls at Pretty in Pink Spa Event
Oakville, ON – December 4, 2013: Local celebrities, Catina and Angela Duscio, known as High Diamond, brought a positive message of confidence, inspiration and perseverance to girls in Oakville on Saturday, inspiring them to shine bright every day.
“Bullying and low self-esteem is so predominant with young girls today and it is a conversation that needs to take place on an ongoing basis in a safe and open environment,” says Imerti. “When I first learned of High Diamond’s struggles with bullying as they worked to make their dreams come true, I knew it was a message that would resonate with so many. Catina and Angela really engaged the girls in discussions about bullying and staying true to their dreams and you could see that it had an impact.”
Throughout the evening, attendees were treated to three songs – Broken, DreamGirl and Dance It Away, a song about bullying – and were encouraged to share their own stories of how bullying has impacted their lives and how they are looking for ways to live their dreams despite the negative comments and influences.
“High Diamond was awesome! I thought it was cool that they shared their stories about being bullied when they were young,” says Josée, Age 9. “To hear that they were bullied and now are living their dreams made me feel hopeful. I want to do what they are doing when I grow up.”
Josée’s mom, Kelly, was thrilled with the event. “My daughter has wanted to be a singer for years, so I knew she’d love meeting High Diamond. But when the first words out of her mouth were about the girls’ struggles with bullying and how they listened to her stories, I knew that the event would have a lasting impression on my daughter.”
It seems like the girls from Oakville inspired High Diamond as well. Their new twitter hashtag – #imallergictogossip – was inspired by one of the girls Keira, age 9, who shared that when friends try to share gossip, she just says, “I’m allergic to gossip.”

MY STYLE. NATURAL SPA PARTY
Written by Verity
I love to get my nails done and to be pampered at a spa but most spas are for older older people or little kids. I am neither. Pretty in Pink Spa is just for me, where teens and preteen girls can get pampered. They can even host a bunch of friends for a spa birthday party so that is what I did this past week.
Each spa party package covers six people plus you can add extra people for a fee. I really like the idea of having a small party, like having a few friends together for a sleepover, so I only invited three of my good friends plus my little sister.
My mom drove us all to Pretty in Pink Spa and we were all super excited when we saw the pink awning of the spa from the parking lot. Inside we were greeted by spa owner Sonia along with the two other girls who were going to pamper us during our two-hour visit. The spa is located at the back of the store It is pretty big.
After taking our coats we were welcomed into the spa area with a fuzzy pink robe for each of us and a very tasty drink, I liked that the drinks were served in Champaign glasses and not paper cups or boring plastic glasses; this made me feel very grown-up. Each glass had a cute flower charm so we could tell our glasses apart when they were on the table.
The first thing we did was to get a manicure. The tables were a perfect size and the bench had all sorts of pillows to make sitting comfortable. They had a big selection of nail polish colours to choose from: pinks, greens, blues, purples, reds, and even yellows. They even offered a sparkly top coat which looked fabulous over the colour. My friends all choose different fun colours. The best part is the polish Pretty in Pink Spa uses, Orly, is non-toxic but you would never guess from looking at my nails.
When our nails were all done we moved to a bigger table for some DIY chocolate facials. I think this is an extra you can add to your party package and I recommend adding it. The facial is made with real dark chocolate. Yum. And yes you could taste it. We all tasted it before painting it on. This is where we got a little crazy. Using paintbrushes we painted chocolate on our faces. Some of us got a little crazy.
After washing up we then made our own personal body scrubs. You could also make a lip balm or a solid perfume stick but I thought everyone would love the scrub. It was super fun. We got to mix it and pour in the ingredients into our little bottles and after we were done that we could chose our scent: vanilla bean, Icing, or bubble gum. I chose vanilla bean.
Then we were called up one by one to get our make-up done. They added a little sparkle eye colour. They said it was the same make-up they use for Dancing With the Stars. I got blue sparkles.
Then we all strut our stuff on the pink carpet with a boa and a sequin hats. On the runway they took lots of pictures including a group shot. Everyone was given a photo of themselves and a group shot to take home.
The very last thing we did was to eat tea sandwiches (chicken wrap, cucumber and cream cheese, and ham and cheese) with some fruit and chips. Then the ladies from Pretty and Pink Spa brought out a platter of lovely pink cupcakes with a candle for me to blow out and everyone got one.
I loved the Pretty in Pink Spa party. I got to hangout and talk with my frends and get pampered. I think this is a great way to celibrate your birthday. Its lots of fun and you can spend time with your BFFS. The ladies at Pretty in Pink were fun and didn’t treat us like little kids. My friends thought that this was lots of fun and they are already planning their next visit.
This cupcake soap looks so real you’ll want to eat it! It’s handmade from from pure olive and coconut oils and scented using fruit. Ultra-gentle, we love that it’s vegan, gluten-free and kicks all the nasties — like parabens, SLS, sulphates and propylene glycol — to the curb. Think outside the tub: this works just well as part of a vignette, too.

While visiting The Upper Oakville Shopping Centre, a bright pink awning caught my eye – Pretty In Pink Spa Studio – I looked down at the most elegant store front window housed by it. The clean lines of the design and the cheerful and fun, yet sophisticated colour palette had me curious as to what this store was all about. I decided to wander in and immediately was impressed by the blend of sweet and fruity scents. There were various skin products lining the walls and an armoire adorned with nail polish, organic make-up and beautiful handmade custom jewellery. I was greeted by Sonia, owner of the store, educator and mother of two girls. Pretty In Pink Spa Studio is predominantly an organic spa for girls between 5-18 years of age specializing in birthday celebrations but also a place where mom’s and daughters, grandmothers and granddaughters come in for some bonding time during side-by-side mani’s or pedi’s.
